Upstairs At Caroline
Best Bars in Austin
I love this place! I’ve always been a big fan of lit up entrances into bars/clubs growing up throughout my 20’s and having to find the main entry. I think it has something to do with that exclusivity feeling of finally being able to drink, after high school graduation. You grow up driving past these places where people would line up outside, waiting to get into certain spots.
On the street level, Upstairs at Caroline looks like it’s a simple restaurant. However, it’s inside as you walk past the bar, that bright neon lights can be seen near stairs. That’s where the real actions at.
Upstairs is a huge rooftop patio filled will heating lamps, plenty of benches for sitting and bonfires surrounded by couches. It reminds me of The Continental Bar, back in San Jose, CA in a way. Only, Upstairs at Caroline has a pool table and a bunch of “Jenga” games for people to play. The age crowd is somewhere between 27 through 40.
The tacos here are a must! I’d recommend ordering the quinoa and cauliflower tacos. There only $3.50 and taste just like chorizo. I ate seven tacos because they were that good.
Do not miss this place. It has that “it” crowd feeling but has a real kickback atmosphere. The next time my friends come into town to visit from Cali’, I’ll be taking them here. There are plenty of TV’s. I could spend a lot of money here on day drinking. The staff here is awesome and very polite.
I saw a bride-to-be here with her friends, and they all had fun. You may want to try your luck here one day he he.
