Spurs Games
San Antonio Spurs NBA
I got a chance to see the Golden State Warriors on New Years Eve against San Antonio. The drive from Austin toward AT&T Center is about an hour and 15 minutes on Highway 35 South. I stopped at the Alamo first to cruise around for a bit.
Let me tell you, San Antonio has some pretty hood areas. I drove down from the Alamo and it looked bad. It felt like I was driving through an area where depression hit. Front yards did not look maintained. The exterior paint on most houses looked faded and sad. The front gates looked old too. I’m pretty sure that may have been the poorest region in San Antonio from looking at it.
I bought parking tickets through the Gametime for about $15 and that’s cheap. The other bad thing about parking at the arena is that they do not allow tailgating. Period. I called prior and they told me it is not allowed. What the hell. That’s the best part!
However, I will say this. The AT&T Center does appreciate each visitor that comes for its game. I showed up two hours before tip-off for an opportunity to meet some of the basketball players. My plan was to walk toward the courtside and get an autograph despite having seats up top.
Check this out. If you show up early, AT&T Center will give you a yellow wristband as you arrive at the arena. That wristband is free and allows you to stand near a tunnel where players enter or exit from the basketball court. I stood there and met some of the players from both teams. The staff working at the arena were awesome! They were so nice and helpful. I really enjoyed that from a fan point of view.
There’s an area inside the area you need to check out and it’s called the H-E-B section. It’s a mini plaza with open seating and may have the best views looking at the court. They have the concession stands there and you can view the scoreboard right in your face.
One thing to keep in mind is remembering where you parked at. I had exited from a wrong door and had to walk all the way around AT&T Center which sucked.
I’ll be back again in April to see the Warriors play the Spurs. We only lost because Curry and Klay Thompson were injured. W-A-R-R-I-O-R-S-!
