Things to Do in Cancun, MX
I’ll never forget that hotness from the humidity once we exited the plane. That heat and stickiness wrapped around my whole body during the whole trip. I sweated all day, every day. Once we landed into Cancun, MX I knew this trip was going to be special.
After landing, all of us hopped into our tiny white, Mexican branded rental car and drove toward the Avalon Grande Hotel, which is now known as Hotel NYX. We walked down to the beach after checking in and I remember thinking to myself, “This is paradise.”
The Caribbean Sea is beautiful.
There’s a spot called the Coco Bongo you need to check out. It has a $10 all-you-can-drink wristband option for purchase. Inside the club it feels like you’re getting ready to celebrate New Year’s. It’s located on the main drag with all the other bars/clubs. We took a yellow school bus for transportation to there because after all we are in a foreign country. It only cost a couple of U.S. cents and is safe believe it or not.
Once your inside and have danced for about an hour the music is going to stop. “Spider-Man” should be appearing out of nowhere and start leaping from wall to wall on a cable wire, above the crowd. I kid you not.
The “Green Goblin,” (his nemesis) is going to appear too and just like that your part of a show watching. Two people are dressed up, battling each other in Marvel costumes, with Spider-Man winning over the course of 10 minutes. Confetti will then soon pop from all sides of the walls like it’s New Years.

Things to Do at Isla Mujeres, MX
The next morning, we headed out to a spot called Isla Mujeres, an island just outside of Cancun. We paid for a boat-ride and it had unlimited booze, for that hour duration. I had gotten myself a nice tan, and we all jammed out to the captain’s music playlist. Remember that song “Papa Americano?” That’s the one.
Once we arrived at Isla Mujeres, the drinking and tanning continued.
I had sat close to the beach, on a lawn chair with the shade covering me. My Corona beer was right there next to me on a small table.
I thought to myself, “It doesn’t get any better than this,” and fell asleep on that same chair staring into that turquoise colored Caribbean Sea. I woke up about two hours later as our group was getting ready to catch the ferry back to our hotel. This time without the drinking.
Things to Do at Playa Del Carmen, MX
The following day we drove to a spot called Playa Del Carmen and stayed at the Posada Mariposa Hotel. We got to explore cenotes, a natural pit/sinkhole where a pool of water can be seen from ground level looking down. (You’ll find street signs on where to locate them, don’t worry). I got to finally snorkel in the ocean with turtles right underneath me. That was awesome.
I learned that the green salsa isn’t salsa Verde, like back home in California. It’s habanero sauce. I found that out the hard way while eating a fish taco and almost passed out in the street. My mouth was on fire.
Soon after, my cousin too would eat that same green salsa. As you can imagine, we were both out in the middle of the street, screaming like a couple of girls near the beach.
Chichén Itzá, MX
The following morning, we drove west to see a pyramid called Chichén Itzá.
I didn’t believe in aliens until I saw what I saw. A massive complex of Mayan ruins from a civilization- built thousands of years ago. It left me speechless and stunned upon seeing. You need to check it out.
On our last adventure day in Playa Del Carmen we stopped by a place called Tulum. It was there that we got to see more beautiful beaches and Mayan ruins with smaller pyramids so to speak. Nearby we found a water, theme, amusement park known as Xcaret. That was also awesome.
We got the chance to swim throughout the park through an underground river with life vests and snorkeling gear.
Xcaret has natural pools that are constantly filled with seawater by the action of the waves. I could have sworn barracudas were in that water, entering in from the ocean and exiting the same way. Luckily, no sharks were there that day. I don’t do sharks after watching the movie “Jaws”.
