Oklahoma/Texas Showdown
The Texas State Fair
Three hours north of Austin is the city of Dallas, Texas. The state fair is held each year here from Sept. 27- Oct. 20th. As you can imagine, everything is deep fried from soda to margaritas. Coupons and admission tickets can be purchased online under a two-pack deal for $79. This bargain offers 100 total coupons for the price of $50. However, all vendors charge between 8-22 coupons each per food/drinks. You may want to buy more coupons.
Big Tex welcomes you into its fair and kind of looks like Slappy from the Goosebumps. A little scary and creepy. The previous Big Tex burned down a couple of years ago from an electrical malfunction.
The parking outside the fair ranges from $20-$30 during the Red River Rivalry. This event hosts the University of Texas and Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl yearly in October. It’s a very big game between two state rivals. Think 49er’s against the Raiders from the NFL.
The metro system DART charges $6 per person round-trip from downtown. You may also be better off paying for parking just outside the fair at $10 and riding the train in.
The weather won’t be as hot in October so plan accordingly.
