Keep Tahoe Blue
South Lake Tahoe Hotels, Events, Things to Do
Lake Tahoe is legit.
I remember growing up in San Jose, CA and seeing those, “Keep Tahoe Blue” bumper sticks. They would always be on the back of cars. Now that I’m older it makes sense.
I finally make a trip up there for the first time this past weekend believe it or not. And man, I should have visited more often!
I’m a believer. I’ll buy a bumper sticker.
Remember the movie, “The Water Boy” with Adam Sandler. There’s a scene in the movie where Bobby shows a bright blue vile of water, to Vicki Vallencourt. Well, that’s how blue the water is in Lake Tahoe. It’s a baby blue color that’s bright and shiny. In a way, it almost hurts your eyes if you stare for t0o long.
It really is magical and blue.
The drive up is amazing. Tahoe is about four-hours away from San Jose driving on Interstate 80 and Highway 50. You drive up and around bendy mountains for quite some time. I drive a Toyota Corolla and the trip was a piece of cake. You don’t need to have an all-wheel drive vehicle but buying chains is recommended. However, cops will pull people over to advise them what’s best and that’s driving with chains on if there’s snow.
On the way up, you get to see tons of green trees and forests for miles. Slowly, those greens trees start to get completely covered in snow the higher your elevation gets. Then, you see it. A white blanket of snow covering the entire ground. EDM artist Kascade has a song titled, “Remember.” I listened to that song while driving past the snow. The music video also puts you in the right mood for this drive. Check it out.
I booked a room in the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and it was dope! My room had its own bar with a countertop long enough for three people to sit down on stools. My bed was five feet away to the right and faced a balcony. I was able to open both sliding doors and see the mountains covered in snow from my point of view. The right side of my room had a living room area with a couch. That side of the room also has sliding doors with a balcony for walking out of. All this for less than $125 a night. The parking at the hotel is free of charge.
I brought a bottle of Ciroc that was summer colada flavored to kick off the day. You can’t drink alcohol on the streets.
In Nevada, gambling is permitted. South Lake Tahoe is just over the state line and is a wise choice. There’s a bar called Cabo Wabo you should check out over at Harvey’s hotel. You can catch a nice buzz there. Just like any other city, Tahoe has its bars, restaurants and nightlife. Just start walking around and find a place to kick it at.
It doesn’t matter if you visit Tahoe in the Summer or winter. You’re going to see that big blue lake and be memorized. Heavenly snow park is where a lot of my friends go. It’s affordable and seems to be popular. Check out which casinos have the cheapest breakfast. That’s a good way for starting off the day.
Forest Cafe is perfect for dinner. The prime rib is the best because it tastes like butter. Be on the lookout for prime rib selected dates.
Have fun.
