San Antonio Tour
Things to Do in San Antonio, TX
I drive to San Antonio, TX every couple of weeks from Austin to unwind for the weekend. There’s an area just outside of the Alamo that I park at. This spot is near the United States Postal Service and Ave E Street. The parking meter there is only 30 cents per hour and can run for up to 10 hours max. I usually don’t stay that long. Remember, I said 30 cents for parking!
The Alamo is down the block and it illustrates how the state of Texas fought Mexico for its Independence so bring your walking shoes. It’s free every day of the week. Horses and carriages are big in San Antonio so get ready to see them around town.
Across the street, you’ll walk down some steps and follow the crowd to a lower level pathway. Welcome to the River Walk. Check out a spot called the Thirsty Aztec, first. That place sells $17 margaritas and beer-to-go with $10 refills, well worth it. Order the Texas Punch. Once you’ve ordered a drink, the exploring can begin.
The RiverWalk has a pedestrian made walking path that runs parallel to a waterway. Shops, restaurants, bars and the mall run all along the path throughout the downtown area.
Mariachi musicians will serenade you with their music for a small price, $20 per song. Drink and hang out with friends while enjoying the day off.
The best part is when I take a break from all the walking and sit at a table for a quick rest. I get to see the river boats pass every couple of minutes with tourists inside of them.
My margarita starts to slowly taste better as I wave back to them from my seat while sitting in the shade.
Places to Hangout at in San Antonio, TX
Less than two miles from The Alamo is a spot called the Pearl District. On the weekends this mini plaza hosts farmers market with different food and drink vendors. People of all ages come out with their kids and pets to sit on the grass for hours. It actually quite relaxing.
There’s live music and it gets crowded with people by noon. It reminds me of a place called Santana Row from back in the Bay Area. It’s worth checking out.
