Trail of Lights

Where to See Christmas Lights in Austin, TX

Each December the city of Austin holds a month long, “Trail of Lights” event at Zilker Park. It’s within this recreational area that decorative lights are displayed for viewers and children to see. I had to park more than a couple of blocks away because of street closures. You may have to walk 15 minutes or so away from the actual entrance. I did some research online prior to attending and found that on certain days of the week you can attend free of charge.

There’s one main entrance entering Zilker during “Trail of Lights” and a single exit as you walk around a big circle inside. There’s going to be a concrete path to follow but you can walk onto the grass if it’s not wet, that is. You’ll also have a chance to sit on Santa’s lap and meet Mrs. Claus so don’t worry.

Avoid spending any money on snacks or drinks until you’ve found a Ferris wheel. It’s going to be in that area where food vendors will be selling items. I’m talking about deep fried Oreos, Twinkies, and brisket to name a few.

Soon after eating, your feet should be hurting from all the walking as the temperature outside quickly gets colder. The exit is just five minutes away from you.

Christmas in the Park back in San Jose, CA is nothing compared to this.
