Papas and Beer
Papas and Beer in Rosarito, MX
Papas and Beer is a cool spot to check out if you’re crossing into Mexico through San Diego, CA. It’s a 25-minute drive from the U.S. Border and always throws the biggest functions near the beach.
Park your car at San Diego’s Las Americas Premium Outlets. It’s a shopping center and the parking is free. You have up until 7PM, to pick it back up, before risk being towed. It’s also the last interstate exit before you officially cross into Mexico. Once you park, there’s going to be a pedestrian bridge on the opposite end. That bridge will lead you into the customs area where the line to cross over into Mexico starts. The wait time is unknown on any given day. You won’t be able to cross without a passport but it’s a piece of cake. There will be an area to exchange your currency into pesos right before entering Mexico. It won’t be hard to miss. Otherwise, you’ll be overspending using American dollars.
Previously I was told that a taxi ride to Papas and Beer was 240 pesos for a 30-minute drive. Keep that in mind so you don’t overspend. I spent that same amount so it’s accurate. I strongly recommend taking the toll road toward the coast and paying the extra fee. It’s going to be safer as the Mexican Army patrols it every day and demonstrates their presence.
Be sure to check what parties or functions Papas and Beers will be hosting prior. Otherwise, you’ll be sitting at an empty bar.
Lastly, use the bathroom before crossing over, the toilets won’t be pretty in Mexico.
