North Beach in Corpus Christi, TX
I’ve spent the past 50 days quarantined inside my own 1,100 sq. ft apartment itching to get out for a road-trip. Gas prices have plummeted to $1.33 a gallon at Chevron and it’s starting to get humid in Austin. I’m a California guy, so an idea of going to the beach is always on my mind.
Now that the governor is reopening Texas, my wish came true. I drove out to Corpus Christi and spent an afternoon at the beach safely. (I social distanced myself by twenty feet).
The cool thing about living in Texas is our 80 MPH speed limits. I got to Corpus Christi in three hours and with half a tank of gas left in my Toyota Corolla. (I spent $16 on gas in total). I then Googled beaches in Corpus Christi and found North Beach.
The parking here is free, and no one messes with your car/belongings. The water felt warm and you could see right through it. I loved that because sharks are always on my mind while at any beach. Moreover, not to far is a Navy ship docked with aircraft-carriers parked on its deck which is cool.
Selena Memorial Statue - Mirador De La Flor
Five-minutes from North Beach, and at the other end of Harbor Bridge is a Selena statue. Selena Quintanilla-Pérez was an American singer from Corpus Christi. Google can locate it in your maps and lead you straight here. There will be completely free parking all along the marina near this statue. Its scenery should remind you of scenes from the Selena movie.
It was nice to get out for some fresh air safely while also social distancing.
