The Rock
Alcatraz Island, CA
I’ve been living in the Bay Area for 25 years and went to Alcatraz just once. Damn, I should have gone more times because it was awesome. I had a chance to visit Alcatraz and take my parents when landing into town from Austin.
Once you get into San Francisco, CA look for this attraction. You pay for the admission that includes a ferry ride into Alcatraz. Remember, it is on an island. It costs about $50 and runs for 3 hours.
“The Rock” as it’s known to some is a worn down closed prison. It housed Al Capone and it’s no joke. Not only are you caged inside like a bird, but your confined in a cold climate. The shower area had you feeling like an inmate, who constantly looked over his shoulder to not get stabbed.
There is a headphone guided tour you need to do. It’s free and gives you an audio perspective of an inmate who lived inside.
We didn’t forget about actor Nicolas Cage in the movie, “The Rock.” Check that movie out.
